I've had a Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature Kettle for over a year now. Its brilliant design has made it my favorite appliance, a pleasure to use every time I make a cup of tea. So when I got the chance to try out the Sharper Image Select-A-Temp, I thought I'd take the opportunity to compare the two. Here's a breakdown:

Interface: With the Breville, you hit one of five temperature buttons (from Green Tea up to Boiling), then hit start. The button lights up, and you can tell even from across the room what state the kettle is in--is it heating up? Has it finished? If so, is the water still hot enough? It also provides audible feedback, beeps that are loud enough to hear from the next room but not so loud as to be irritating. The Sharper Image uses a small digital display on the handle. This is a high-quality kettle. At 1500 watts it isn't under-powered like too many other kettles out there which means you get so save money because it will heat your water faster. Furthermore, because you can control the temperature of the water (you can set it to boil from anywhere between 110 and 212 degrees Fahrenheit) you can further save money on your electricity bills and/or ensure that the water is boiled just right for the kind of tea you're making. Add to that the fact that the kettle rotates on the power base, that its top opens up, making it easier to clean than many of its competitors makes this a very practical kettle.

My quibbles then don't have to do with the practicality but with its aesthetics. The handle is a bit chunky. Maybe it's that I have small hands but I find it a bit awkward to pick it up when it's full. Also, it doesn't keep water hot for as long as some of its competitors. I compared this kettle by lining it up with our household's two other electric kettles: my unbreakable workhorse Braun and the amusingly-psychedelic Saeco.

First the speed test: I measured 32 oz of cold tapwater into each. I ran them consecutively using the same electrical outlet: Braun 4:58; Sharper Image 5:30, Saeco 5:00. For serial tea-making (us Brits have to work harder at assembling our daily caffeine dose), the Saeco is my favourite because it will keep water warm for two hours, compared to 30 min for the Sharper Image. Is that environmentally bad? Not if it's heating season, when any source of heat inside the house is about as green as any other except for wood or solar.

[Note: For longevity of the unit, I recommend always boiling slightly more water than you need. If you completely empty an only-just-boiled...

Although the pot was listed as used, it looked new when I received it. The pot is very heavy and large. However, there was a problem when I received it. The interior bottom of the pot was marred, leaving a black residue. I discovered the residue was oxidized aluminum, not good when cooking anything. I intend to return it ... the aluminue residue can make you very ill ... it's been linked to altzheimers disease ... NOT GOOD!

1st Customer Review : Right now 4-star, but this is only Week 2
Unit arrived with 2 small dents on its front stainless steel finish. But inner and outer cartons were both intact, so probably due to some packaging design flaws or Q/C issues. This was bought to replace my Zojirushi ZUTTO Micom unit (bought in 2006, fixed once 2 years ago), which interior anti-stick liner (plus the mysterious black goo/glue) was nothing but problem (my friend who also owns one can attest to this). I can't believe that Zojirushi still hasn't released a model with pure stainless steel interior...

This Air Pot looks way prettier than my ZUTTO. The real stainless steel finish really makes a big difference on my contemporary kitchen. Too bad of those dents...

On the Air Pot, the cup-switch is nice but probably an invitation to law suits by careless users. It offers no actual temperature display unlike the ZUTTO. The lighted water window (not on at all time, thank God) is neat but the blue color looks cheesy. A cool white light will be ideal...

1st Customer Review : As Good As Advertised -- Cooks Pasta Perfectly
I've been boiling various pasta noodles, at least twice a week, for over 25 years. When I first saw the FASTA PASTA microwave cooker internet demo video, I was a bit skeptical but interested enough to purchase the product from Amazon.com. After using the product three times, I can honestly say that it not only cooks pasta very fast but better, with less mess and energy, than pot boiling the noodles. Just follow the simple instructions and you will have perfectly cooked pasta without having to check it while cooking for readiness. I wish that this product had been invented years ago. My ONLY minor negative comments: 1. FASTA PASTA can only cook up to four pasta servings at one time, which makes its use for a large group impracticle. 2. The water measurement lines are a bit difficult to see when water and pasta is added to the cooker. Adding color to these lines would make them easier to see.

After looking at the Pasta n More reviews, which were average, I decided against getting that one, plus I didn't like those dorky looking handles, and I didn't want all those pieces. I saw this one and was swayed by the compact size, and it's actually made in the USA. The Fasta Pasta is slender enough to tuck on a pantry shelf or in a cabinet without sacrificing a lot of space, and it isn't flimsy.

The cooker holds enough pasta for 4 servings, which in most cases will be fine for me. I decided to make macaroni and cheese using 4 cups of water and 2 cups of elbow macaroni, which according to the pasta chart is 4 servings. I started the macaroni before I started making the cheese sauce, and the pasta was done before I finished the sauce! What a timesaver. The user guide suggests a cooking time of 10 minutes for macaroni and that's what I used. The pasta was al dente and just right for my baked macaroni and cheese. This is really a Kitchen must have.
I'm not a microwave cooker, but this works perfect if you follow the directions, and do not put the lid on while cooking in your microwave.
Only use the lid for taking out of the microwave, and draining.

I made wholewheat pasta , and it was perfect and did not stick.
Also egg noodles came out perfect.

I like to wash the starch off of my pasta, and with this I still can with out useing a collender.

Using this, I do not have to wait for the water to boil, nothing boils over on my stove, and there is not a callender to wash either. No mess at all.
I put this on the top shelf of my dishwasher, it washed with out a problem.

I bought mine from qvc, and it came with two, for more money then this, but still a good price..

Would buy again..

1st Customer Review : Such a price for a double boiler?
I grew up with a mother who baked pies. Cream pies were my personal favorite, plain and coconut cream. My mother made them from scratch and from my early youth I would stand at the stove on a chair stirring the cream custard in a double boiler, waiting anxiously for it to thicken. It seemed interminable then, in what I recall to have been a metal pot with an insert. In our marriage we have carried on the tradition and have had many different double boilers over the years, including aluminum and glass ones which we had up until the purchase of an induction range which precluded the use of glass. We have had All-Clad Ltd cookware almost since it was introduced, but it too had to be replaced, being mostly aluminum and not compatible with induction technology. We chose the All-Clad Copper Core induction compatible, and the double boiler seemed an extravagant, somewhat over the top purchase.

We bought our All-Clad copper-core cookware set from Williams Sonoma, and I wanted to add a matching double boiler to the set. I found the best price on Amazon and made the purchase. The double boiler matches my set perfectly.

The All-Clad copper-core double boiler, made in the USA, weighs 6 lb 11 oz when fully assembled and empty. The box contains a 2-quart sauce pot, dishwasher safe porcelain insert with stainless steel handle, and two stainless steel lids. The insert lid is slightly smaller than the sauce pot requires, so it's nice this set comes with two. Although, it would have been nicer if the double boiler was designed to work with one lid.

1st Customer Review : Perfect for Ramen Noodle lovers
I purchased this hot water dispenser about a month ago because it had a large capacity (4 liters)at an excellent price. I have never owned a "hot pot" before, but I was hoping this would keep up with our wintertime hot water needs since I have 7 kids.

Rosewill is a brand I have purchased before and I know they have a very responsive customer service department in case I have a problem.

This is not a small appliance and will take up some room on your counter. It is 15" tall and about 10 1/2" deep at the top. The sides of the exterior are silver colored metal, the top is white plastic, and the interior is stainless steel. There is a window on the front which allows you to see the water level at a glance. The controls are sealed buttons on the top. It also has a swivel feature on the bottom which is so convenient.

I got this so that my family could easily and quickly make hot tea, hot chocolate and ramen noodles. Since it safely dispenses water up to 208...

We bought this product to help prep baby formula and within 1 month we noticed rust forming at the bottom of the heater. Also, the water gauge was broken when we received it. I noticed there was another review with the same rust issue. The price is alluring but stay away from this cheap product!

It is cheap but really poor quality. We use it about 2-3 liters each day and did cleaning every 30 days. But the rust started building up in the bottom of the inner circle after 2 months. I couldn't clean it off by cloth either. Called their customer service and they wanted to provide RMA under my shipping. I would like to pass since the shipping fee is more than half the price which I paid for the product.
